BCYF Life Fellows

BCYF is pleased to announce the recipients of its first two Life Fellowships. Mike Kelly and Paul Whelan have both received a Life Fellowship in recognition of their contribution to BCYF and its founding agencies.

The Life Fellow assessment (by the Board) measures the contribution of an individual or group through the proven and demonstrated achievement of one or more of the following attributes:

  • leadership and governance;
  • contribution to organisational sustainability and strategic development;
  • service contribution and outcomes; and
  • mission and values aligned ethical behaviour.

Mike Kelly who was CEO of Time for Youth until the time of the merger in 2015, was instrumental in leading his agency to make the momentous decision to join with partner agencies Glastonbury and Barwon Youth. In his 13 years with BYAS/Time for Youth, Mike’s professional social work training was key in recognizing the fundamental importance of family and school to young people and understanding how partnering across service delivery systems could make a huge difference to the lives of young people.

Mike was also behind winning the tender that enabled the first successful trial of ‘The Geelong Project’ model which is still a core program for the BCYF and its’ Youth Services team today.

Paul Whelan, who has recently resigned from the BCYF Board, has also been recognised for his dedication,  commitment and voluntary service over the past 10 years. Paul who joined the Glastonbury Board in 2008, was a very strong advocate for the merger of the three founding organisations and provided significant input into Glastonbury’s merger strategy. Continuing as a BCYF Director until 2018, Paul’s background and experience have contributed significantly to the BCYF Board and, in turn, the work that we do.

Congratulations Mike and Paul on this outstanding and well deserved recognition.
