Thursday, 01 February 2018
Our Colac East Kindergarten have welcomed children beginning term 1 into their newly upgraded facility this week. The Kindergarten has undergone a complete refurbishment to increase the service capacity to educate and care for more children.
Barwon Child, Youth & Family (BCYF) CEO Sandy Morrison said the upgrade of the facilities will improve early childhood services in the Colac community.
“We know the importance of a child’s early years and that delivering an educational program that excites and motivates children to learn, prepares them for success at school and throughout life.”
“Barwon Child, Youth & Family is committed to continually improving our Kindergarten services and the Colac East Kindergarten renovation will provide the community, with a modern and inspiring learning environment for children and their families to enjoy,” Mr Morrison added.
The $389,000 renovation has been managed by BCYF and funded by the Victorian Government, BCYF, Colac Otway Shire and the Colac East Kindergarten Committee. The improvements includes:
an increase to the overall floor space to create a spacious open indoor learning environment
- a striking new façade at the entrance
- improved storage
- new meeting room to improve kindergarten parent support
- expanded office space for staff
Colac East Kindergarten Educational Leader Heidi Keir said the team have been very excited to show off the Kinder as they welcomed children at the start of term 1.
“The children and families starting Kindergarten this year have all been very impressed and enjoyed seeing and experiencing the new modern and inspiring learning environment."
"We also welcome the Colac community to make an appointment to come and see what our brand new Kindergarten has to offer.”
Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos said the Victorian Government had invested $289,464 in this upgrade because they knew the difference it will make to children attending the kindergarten.
“This exciting project at Colac East Kindergarten will mean an extra 15 families will have access to a great local kinder with fantastic facilities,” Ms Mikakos said.
“Making Victoria the Education State starts with the early years. We know that better quality early childhood services mean a better start in life for our kids, which is why we’re ensuring our kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.”
